Managed to watch the punk thriller Green Room at the weekend. Boy, is that an intense affair. Written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier, (Blue Ruin), it tells the story of a young, touring indie punk band who end up playing a gig in the backwoods to a crowd of right-wing neo-Nazi skins. Inevitably things go south quickly and rather violently. Without giving away too much Green Room is an assault on the senses, precariously tip-toeing the line between thriller and horror. Patrick Stewart delivers a steely, menacing performance and the script sizzles but the undeniable feature of this film is the understated performance by the late Anton Yelchin. Green Room serves as a reminder of just how immensely talented this young actor was. Green Room looks to be in my top five movies of 2016.
